Felt

Felt

Felt is a non-woven textile material produced by matting, condensing, and pressing fibers together—typically wool, polyester, or acrylic—without the need for weaving or knitting. This unique structure results in a dense, durable fabric that offers excellent cushioning, sound absorption, and dimensional stability, making it a versatile solution across both industrial and consumer applications.

Description

Its ability to resist fraying, absorb impact, and conform to complex shapes makes felt a preferred choice in industries such as automotive, electronics, construction, furniture, musical instruments, packaging, and apparel. In automotive interiors, felt is used for acoustic insulation, vibration damping, and trim padding. Electronics manufacturers rely on it for shock absorption and noise control in device enclosures and speaker systems. In construction, felt serves as a soundproofing layer, expansion joint filler, and thermal barrier in wall and flooring systems.

Felt also plays a vital role in musical instruments, where it cushions piano hammers, dampens drum cymbals, and lines key mechanisms for quiet operation. In furniture and bedding, it adds comfort and structure to cushions, mattresses, and underlays. Packaging applications benefit from its protective qualities, especially for fragile or precision components. Additionally, felt is widely used in arts and crafts, fashion accessories, and decorative panels, thanks to its soft texture and availability in a wide range of colours and thicknesses.

Available in various grades—such as wool, synthetic, or blended compositions—felt can be fabricated through die-cutting, lamination, molding, and adhesive bonding to meet specific design and performance requirements. It is supplied in rolls, sheets, or custom formats and can be tailored to comply with international standards including RoHS, REACH, and UL 94, ensuring safety and reliability across regulated markets.
